Fourth day as a Commander

09062020

It has been a busy few days for me, I haven't had much of a chance to update this log but I shall try my best to remember and detail what my fourth day entailed.

After trying my hand at mining, I discovered that for right not, it is just not my strong suit. I will need to learn more about the mechanics of mining and upgrade to a better ship before I try again. After I decided to move on from mining, I went in search for a new home to call my own. I ventured forth in to Alliance space and found myself a neat little station called the Rice Gateway within the Boreas System.

I did a few contracts to earn me some more credits, carrying cargo from system to system. As I was moving this cargo I discovered a trading goldmine between the G 121-8 System and the GD 140 System just outside of Boreas. This lead to me earning more money than I could fathom in such a short time. I traded between the two systems enough for me to purchase a Type-6 Transporter, now named the Voestar 767837. After I bought some even more cargo space for my new ship, I started completing even more lucrative cargo hauling missions, earning over 600,000 credits in just a single contract.

After earning this money, I helped out with the Famine relief, by funding some food supplies. It was a substantial contribution that I hope can help many people. although I am out here trying to make my fortune, I don't see much of a point of hoarding it to myself without helping those in need.

Third Day as Commander

06062020

I haven't made much in the way of progress since the Pilot's Federation took away my District Permit. I have mostly been hopping from one star system to the next in hope of finding a new home, unfortunately so far I have had no luck.

As I have been flying through space, I have been listening to the audio logs from the codex, learning more about the superpowers within the galaxies. Now I understand why Theo told me that he wasn't an imperial, Who would think that people of the Empire would consider owning people as slaves, and ponder the moral implications with nothing more than a shrug of the shoulders.

I recently bought a new ship from the Nanabozho system as well; a Hauler (Voestar 428537). Unfortunately however, after a few hours of traveling, I found it not suitable for my tastes, and returned to my Sidewinder (Voestar 628426). After jumping through some more systems, I found another new ship called the Adder (Voestar 23337) which I bought and outfitted with some mining equipment. I plan on trying my luck as a prospector and earn myself a few more credits.

Second day as a Commander

05062020

Today was a strange day. I picked up three missions to complete lastnight, and was in the middle of delivering 8 units of Tea to Aldrich Station in the Otegine system. I made a short stop in the Hollatja system, Fermat City to be exact, and as soon as I landed I was bombarded by several messages from the Pilot's Federation; The same group of people who gave me my Pilot license just yesterday. Apparently I have "progressed beyond the requirements for access to Pilot's Federation Space" and thus, my Pilot's Federation District Permit has been revoked.

Upon reading this message I went to view the other messages I received, my contracts with those within the Pilot Federation Districts have been rescinded. Luckily I still got paid, yet I can't help but feel a little bit abandoned. I was never made aware that my Permit could be revoked in an instant.

I guess my new plan should be to find a new system to call home. Preferably one which can sell me a new ship.

My first day as a Commander

04062020

I earned my Pilot's license today, under the instruction of Theo Acosta. A polite and professional fellow, who made a comment about having an imperial accent, yet hailing from an independent system. I know nothing about the political affiliations of the star systems, something I might consider remedying for my own personal (and possibly financial) gain. It was exhilarating watching as my Sidewinder powered up its engines and the on board computer took care of the undocking procedures. I've always been fascinated with the accuracy and fluidity of the automation, and is always a sight to behold. Feeling it first hand in the cockpit is something else entirely. I'm still unsure what was shaking more; me or the ship as the vibrations rattled through my seat and centre stick.

Once the computer finished undocking, it was up to me to finally take the helm and show Theo what I could do. First it was a simple checkpoint navigation task, something that I completed to my surprise with relative ease. At first flying was a bit out of hand; learning to control how much I should angle the centre stick, and how much pressure I should apply was my biggest hurdle. Who knew that such giant machines could be so sensitive? After I flew through the checkpoints, it was on to learning the navigational controls.

I've always heard about the Frame Shift Drive (FSD for short) being essential to space travel, and here I learned just how true that is. I traveled further in that 3 minute window than I have in my entire life. Even though I was flying into combat training, I still can't believe just how amazing Hyperspace looks when you're traversing the galaxy faster than the speed of light.

Once I arrived at the combat simulation, I was given access to the ships' weaponry system; a Pulse Laser primary, and a Multi-cannon secondary. Theo instructed me to blow up 6 canisters which seemed to be full of explosives, because they exploded mighty impressively when I shot them. Then I was told to shoot an actual ship! It was a decoy merely meant to teach me about manouvering and firing at a moving target simultaneously, but after I blew that ship up, I was up against one that could fight back. Theo assured me that the weapon systems of this ship was severely powered down as to not get myself killed, but I still wasn't going to give it the chance. We danced around each other the best we could, but I eventually managed to ride it's tail long enough to lower their shields with my Pulse Laser and blast it with my Multi-cannon, just like I dispatched the last ship.

Once combat training was over and done with and I docked back onto Coelho station, I was issued with my license and command of the very Sidewinder I was training with. I decided to name it the Voestar, a name that I always called my ships when I was just a young lad, and a tradition I plan on sticking to as I buy new ships. I plan on distinguishing my ships by their ID codes.

After I finished familiarising myself with the navigation console, reading the Pilot Guide within the Codex, I set off on my first mission; flying to Mawson Dock in the Dromi system. I was sent this mission by Theo as a sort of post graduation introduction to earning credits, something I hope to be doing a lot of in the near future. Before leaving Coelho station however, I checked the Mission Board and found two contracts to deliver messages exactly to where I was headed, so I grabbed them and started off on my first solo journey amongst the stars.

I spent the next few hours learning the ropes of my new navigation menu, learning how to set target destinations, route maps, and discovering that I go really, really fast with Supercruise. Not as fast as flying at hyperspace, but fast enough that I overshot my next few destinations. Once I finally managed to land at Mawson Dock, I was awarded 10,000 credits for completing my mission given to me by Theo, and an extra 40,000 credits for the message delivery contract.

For the rest of the day I became a mercenary postman, delivering messages to and fro inside the Dromi system. Then I decided to use up so of my cargo space to become a postman who carried cargo goods. I ended the day with a few more credits than I started, just over 200,000 to be exact. Not a bad paycheck for a few hours work. I plan on continuing this pattern tomorrow, and see what kind of discoveries and opportunities I can make for myself.
