Galactic Mapping > Routes > Vacuus Flume (Perseus Fade crossing for unengineered and lower range vessels)

The most easterly known crossing of the Perseus Fade for un-engineered ships, and the most efficient route for travelling between the Bubble and the Galactic Antarctic.

The Vacuus Flume

The Flume (so named for the tortuous route it weaves from the Perseus Arm into the Outer Arm Vacuus) spans 1,500 ly of mostly empty void. It is not a journey to be undertaken lightly. Nevertheless, use of this route shaves around 6,000 ly off the traditional path to the Galactic Antarctic via the Daedalus Crossing (nearly 10,000 ly to the west).
The route builds on, and is a tribute to, the endeavours of earlier explorers in the region. However, unlike the nearby Paradox Shortcut (some 2,500 ly to the west) and the even closer Monoceros Passage, both of which require engineered ships with a relatively high jump range, the Flume remains navigable by un-engineered and lower range vessels fitted with only a 38 ly jump drive.

The Vacuus Flume was documented and verified in an un-engineered Diamondback Explorer, the "Robert Falcon Scott" https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleet-ship/74267/2143212/ in February 3307. The Flume significantly improves access to the Outer Arm Vacuus (Kepler's Crest/Xibalba) region, and allows a more direct route to the Galactic Antarctic for experienced explorers and new explorers who may not yet have unlocked the Engineers.

Minimum Jump Requirement = 38 ly
The point-to-point displacement for the crossing is 1,541 ly. However, traversing the Flume involves over 2,500 ly of actual hyperspace travel.

For a 38 ly ship, the route requires 36 Jumps in total:
1 x regular, non-boosted jump
2 x Basic FSD Boosts
3 x Standard FSD Boosts
30 x Premium FSD Boosts

If your jump range is greater than 38 ly, you may be able to reduce the number, or the grade, of FSD injections required to run the Flume.
It is NOT recommended to attempt the route with a jump range lower than 38 ly. Your margins for error are very slim indeed in this region of space!
