(Krait Phantom)
Found a moon orbiting very close to the rings of its parent gas giant: Eok Flyuae HC-C d13-3616 D 9 a.
The rings are so close you can see the rocks moving. They're close enough the game gets confused between you flying in the rings or orbiting the planet.
Ever since Odyssey dropped, I'd been missing driving the flat canyons that Horizons sometimes produced. I'd always had a hard time finding them in Horizons. They seem a little less common on Odyssey. Still, I found these on Bleae Aeh XZ-W d2-0 A 2 a at 26/73:
It was really nice to stretch my SRV legs for a bit!
Again, Elite Observatory hints about two moons in close orbit. This time it is Skaudaea LF-L b38-1 A 3 a:
Note to self: Lysoonts WU-X c17-0 2 b has some nice mountains. Must remember to take some pictures next time!
While out exploring, I've been keeping an eye out for large terrain features. The new Odyssey terrain is not as extreme as the Horizons terrain, so finding things like large mountains is difficult.
On Blu Euq HC-L b54-0 1 I found a 6km high escarpment:
Horizons had never done terrain like this!
Nearby on the same moon (at about 10/140) I found an 11km high mountain:
It's true that it wouldn't be too hard to find higher mountains in Horizons (I've climbed 16km high mountains in my SRV), but when lots of players claim Odyssey only does 5-6km high mountains then here is a counter-example.
What I do miss from Horizons is the long, relatively flat canyons I could drive at speed in my SRV.
The Elite Observatory once again has provided a nice photo opportunity. Blu Thua ZL-C d13-0 3 b a is a moon that orbits very close to its parent body:
After returning to the "Bubble" for Christmas (and picking up the Winking Cat goodies) I have returned to the White Dwarf survey. While passing through Blu Thua IM-Y d2-10 Elite Observatory noted a planet with most of the FSD boost materials, so I dropped down for a top-up. When I landed I noticed there were several different plant species for scanning:
There turned out to be 9 species! There were also a few "Distress Beacons". I visited one and picked up some escape pods.
Found a spectacular view from a ringed Ice World in orbit with a ringed Gas Giant in Sifoae FB-E d12-4:
Successfully landed on Via Gravitatis in the KOI 1701 system. Only 23 jumps from the Bubble in my exploration-configured Krait Phantom.
This planet has a huge 45.32G gravity, although the HUD is only showing 45.28G:
In the game, it appears high-G worlds aren't properly modelled - it didn't feel any different to landing on an 11G world.
Found an Earth-Like World and Water World orbiting each other in Sifoae UA-E d12-1:
You can just see the Water World in the middle of the picture, just to the right of the Earth-Like, between the ELW and the Krait.
