Cartographie Galactique > Routes > Outer Asterous Route

Asterous is the most distant star along the North-South galactic meridian, i.e. the star furthest away directly "north" from Sol, straight across the galaxy to the far side, and discovered by Erimus Kamzel in 3301.

Asterous isn't a very popular destination and not many CMDRs have made the effort to reach it, perhaps because "furthest north" isn't a very sexy destination compared to, say "furthest away of all". On top of that, it is a little bit tricky to reach for an un-engineered ship, and it is just a single star without any planets at all.

Nevertheless I found it a fascinating destination. It is 65 424 Ly from Sol, making it 150 Ly further out than the ever popular Beagle Point, and it is truly at the very outer edge of the galaxy, with literally nothing beyond it except inter-galactic space.

To get to Asterous, you need a ship capable of at least 34,21 Ly range on fumes, so an un-engineered Asp can do it if well built. All stars on the route are scoopable, so it is safe to maximize jump range by keeping minimum fuel levels in your tanks all the way.

If you aren't used to jumping on fumes, I should warn you that even if my "Functions" tab tells me that my ship is capable of 34,89 Ly max range on fumes, I have never been able to exactly hit the 5 T of fuel needed for that range; the best I usually achieve is 34,80 to 34,87 Ly range. Tip: Use recent versions of ED Discovery to see exactly what you have in your tank after scooping.

The route itself: The route starts at Hyia Eohn YO-B b47-0, which lies in the navigably dense layer around -50 to -60 in the Solitude Void. Figuring out the first jump is really the only trick to it, from there it is quite obvious:
