The answer is Forty-Two
For centuries, humanity has pondered what the question is.
The question we choose to answer here is "How many regions of the Milky Way are named and delineated in the Pilots' Federation Codex?" This expedition invites you to visit all Forty-Two in the company of a collection of like-minded loonies whistle-stop tourists (or by yourself if you prefer your cosmos Black). Every week or two, the tour party will meet at one of the waypoints, whence we jump directly to at least one other waypoint in a different region. In this fashion we will visit every region in a mere eighteen stops. There is no grand scientific objective, no curated package tour of spectacular Points of Interest - though there are plenty of roses to smell along the way - just a few frenzied weeks traversing the Galaxy collecting visa stamps on your Elite, the Galaxy and Everything passport.
In parallel with the main expedition, we invite impetuously competitive travellers to participate in the 42 Ubiquity Challenge, a speed trial to visit every waypoint in the shortest time. After the expedition is complete, prizes of two billion credits will awarded in each of three categories - fastest time, fastest in a small ship, and of course an Infinite Improbability Prize for the unlikeliest vessel to complete the ordeal. Rules and conditions and challenge registration are on our Discord server.
The expedition is not for the faint-hearted or the irresolute. The distance, over 320 kLy, requires a sustained level of commitment and a willingness to take an extended vacation from the everyday bustle of the Bubble. It is intended as "old school" exploration - a single ship, with no cosy Fleet Carrier ferries to provide sleeper service between waypoints and easy passage across the awkward gaps. There will be a carrier located at or close to the endpoint of the expedition in Xibalba to provide passage back to the Bubble a few days after the expedition ends.
We recommend a jump range of at least 55Ly, plus enough jumponium materials for an occasional FSD injection. A range of 64Ly should be enough to avoid completely the need for any boosted jumps.
To participate in the main expedition or the challenge, join our Discord server after registering for the expedition here on EDSM. Registration via the Discord is a requirement for challenge competitors.
If this is Acheron it must be Wednesday.
