Situated on the edge of the Outer Arm Vacuus and 16,521 LY south of Sol, this is currently believed to be the most southerly system in the galaxy reached during the pre-jumponium and pre-engineering era. It was visited in the first half of 3301 as part of a record setting voyage that pushed back the limits of the unreached galaxy in several ways. The system is named in honour of Ernest Shackleton, one of old Earth's great Antarctic explorers.
