My First Footfall!

Date: 8/31/24, 10:21 AM System: Praea Euq CU-C b40-4
Planets: Praea Euq CU-C b40-4 3 a & Praea Euq CU-C b40-4 7 a

I wasn’t expecting much yesterday. Just another routine trip through the black, hopping between systems and cataloging what I could. But sometimes, the stars have a way of surprising you.

I dropped into the Praea Euq CU-C b40-4 system, not looking for anything in particular. It was already charted, so I figured I’d skim through it, and maybe pick up some new data. But as I started scanning the planets, something caught my eye none of the landable worlds had ever been touched. Plenty of CMDRs had passed through and mapped the planets, but no one had bothered to land. It felt like an invitation.

I decided to take it. I picked one of the only two landable worlds a tidally locked, rocky ice world orbiting a red dwarf. A barren place, quiet and unassuming. The kind of place most CMDRs might overlook. As I brought my ship closer to this ball of rock and ice, excitement started to build. This was my chance to get my name on the planet info screen for the first time.

I extended the landing gear and began my descent, but just as I was coming in, everything froze except for the audio of my thrusters. My heart sank. Turns out my internet decided to cut out at the worst possible moment. Those few seconds felt like an eternity. But then, just as suddenly, the connection came back, and there I was still intact, but with my hull at 50% and shields offline.

After that scare, I took it slow and steady, finally touching down on the rocky ice world. I deployed my SRV, took a drive around, and then stepped out to leave my mark as the first CMDR to walk on this world. After a victory lap and a moment to take in the quiet beauty of the landscape, I returned to my ship, setting my sights on the second landable planet in the system a distant icy body.

I took off, headed into supercruise, and made the short 2,360 light-second trip to the next planet. Upon arrival, nothing particularly dramatic happened. I mapped the planet as I had done with the first, then made my descent to the surface. This time, I kept it simple stepped out, and walked around just long enough to secure the achievement of being the first to set foot there. There wasn’t much else of note on this icy rock, and that was fine by me.

With both planets in the system now marked by my presence, I headed back to the ship, ready to continue my journey into the unknown. There are still uncharted systems and planets out there waiting for their turn. And I'm just getting started.

I'm fairly new to the game and wasn’t expecting much yesterday. Just another routine trip through the black, but I managed to get my first footfall on a planet about 1,349ly away from Cubeo and this is the photo to commemorate my first.
