I just passed through the Charick Drift system on my way to see Felicity in Deciat. I wasn't really thinking about where I was heading, just letting the auto-nav do its thing. But then there it was. The Atlas.

I always get a chill when I see one of those big generation ships. It boggles the mind to think about how unprepared those people were for the realities of interstellar flight. Still I suppose you can't stop people from dreaming of a better life, out there, somewhere.

I remember hearing stories about the Atlas. With so many of the generation ships meeting with disastrous fates, it always felt like there was still some hope for humanity as long as there were noble individuals willing to risk everything for the good of others. Still, after hearing the log entries of that lonely engineer first hand, I can't help but feel that those colonists lost something at least as wonderful as they gained.
