Codex Expedition - Resumption Nearing

As previously stated in April, the Codex Expedition went into hiatus following the announcement of the fleet carriers update. Another one of my goals was to finally become triple elite by earning my final elite rank in combat. That goal is coming very close to becoming reality and I am very excited to resume the expedition in August. As of July 30th I am 57% of the way from Deadly to Elite and I expect to finish within 2 weeks. The hiatus has given me a valuable chance to fight for the Federation, who I've been loyal to since Elite Dangerous came out. I always thought farming Thargoid scouts was a lame and boring way to grind combat rank and wanted to do something more engaging, and even though CZ combat is indeed slower it's been surprisingly fun.

As of right now I am setting a tentative date of August 16th for the Codex Expedition to resume right where it left off, and this time I will not be returning to the bubble until it is 100% done.

Codex Expedition - Side Mission to M67

While the primary portion of the Codex Expedition remains in hiatus for the time being, today I am embarking on a short journey to the M67 star cluster about 3000 lys from the bubble. This will be my first time revisiting this area since the Distant Stars expedition of 3303 and I am excited to return to the bubble with exploration data this time.

The bulk of the travel to the cluster will take place aboard the Victory Class Fleet Carrier, Niveus One (J1X-91N). Upon arrival my newly outfitted and engineered Krait Phantom NEV Reality Bridge will be used for exploration survey. The final waypoint of this mission before returning to the bubble is HD 76133, also known as Anaconda's Graveyard. This is where the Distant Stars expedition came to an end, as at the time there was no way to jump back out of the star cluster.

Codex Expedition - Hiatus Log 4/12/3306

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 4/12/3306, details of which can be found here.

On 3/29 a decision was made to put the expedition temporarily on hiatus for a variety of reasons. With the release of fleet carriers in June I was hopeful that they would provide something new for exploration. While playing the beta has made me pessimistic about this I am still going to wait and see. At the very least they will make it less of a hassle for me to unlock the colonia engineers which is part of my itinerary when I get to that region. I arrived back in the bubble on April 1 in order to build up my credit balance, complete engineering most of my ships, and to grind engineering materials in the off chance that the upcoming update somehow nerfs the current farming methods. I expect the Codex Expedition to resume in July, in the mean time I will be grinding my combat rank and experimenting with new ship builds which is an aspect of the game I largely ignored until now.

This week (the week of 3/29 to 4/4) a total of 1211 systems were visited, spanning approximately 62,760lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 4261 systems have been visited spanning approximately 217,085lys of travel distance. Survey of the Ryker's Hope region was completed prior to the decision to return home. Arrival in the bubble occurred on 4/1 in Shinrarta Dezhra. Exploration data was handed in to Universal Cartographics for a total value of 1,409,004,021 Cr.

The expedition will resume in the Odin's Hold region, which is #4 of the 42 total that will be surveyed. I will likely be re-engineering my Anaconda or engineering a Krait Phantom from scratch as the jump range of the Krait MkII was somewhat aggravating and there are a few systems that I am very interested in that can only be reached with over 60ly of jump range.

Codex Expedition - End of Week Log 3/28/3306

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 3/28/3306, details of which can be found here.

This week a total of 779 systems were visited, spanning approximately 38,920lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 3050 systems have been visited spanning approximately 154,325lys of travel distance. During the week, survey of the Empyrean Straits was completed and the expedition moved on to the Ryker's Hope region. Survey of that region is also nearing completion. The following entries could not be confirmed in Empyrean Straits:

  • Terraformable Ammonia World - This type of body does not exist
  • P03-Type anomaly - No longer found at reported location
  • Proto-Lagrange Cloud - No longer found at reported location
  • Niveum Octahedral Pod - No longer found at reported location

Ryker's Hope Region Progress

Ryker's Hope is #3 of the 42 regions that will be surveyed, and throughout the week the survey moved along at a very fast pace. Current progress is as follows:

  • Stars: 36 Confirmed of 40 Reported / 90% Completed
  • Gas Giants: 10 Confirmed of 10 Reported / 100% Completed
  • Terrestrial Planets: 17 Confirmed of 20 Reported / 85% Completed
  • Geology and Anomalies: 18 Confirmed of 23 Reported / 78% Completed
  • Organic Structures: 9 Confirmed of 9 Reported / 100% Completed
  • All Entries Combined: 90 Confirmed of 102 Reported / 88% Completed

There have been no entries that could not be found so far in the Ryker's Hope Region (excluding the terraformable AW which I will no longer even acknowledge). It is expected that all entries will be confirmed as the only items remaining are geological and celestial which don't pose the issues that NSP's seem to in terms of changing/disappearing from expected locations.

Codex Expedition - End of Week Log 3/21/3306

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 3/14/3306, details of which can be found here.

This week a total of 726 systems were visited, spanning approximately 37,954lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 2271 systems have been visited spanning approximately 115,405lys of travel distance. During the week, survey of the Empyrean Straits continued and is now nearing completion. The following entries could not be confirmed in the region:

  • Terraformable Ammonia World - This type of body does not exist
  • P03-Type anomaly - No longer found at reported location
  • Proto-Lagrange Cloud - No longer found at reported location
  • Niveum Octahedral Pod - No longer found at reported location

Considerable effort was made to locate alternative locations for the latter 3 entries listed above, to no avail. If you know of locations in the Empyrean Straights region that still have these entries present, please message me in game.

  • All Entries Combined: 98 Confirmed of 118 Reported / 83% Completed

Anemones, Seemingly Omnipresent Throughout the Galaxy

Codex Expedition - Empyrean Straits POI
  • System: Eorld Pri ZL-B d14-3793
  • Body: 8 A
  • Description: Large Earth-like moon orbiting a Class III Gas Giant. At nearly 3,000ls away from it's parent class G star, the moon actually acquires most of it's heat from the gas giant that it closely orbits. At a simmering 315K, the moon is likely a haven of tropical life and deserts with no ice caps.

Codex Expedition - End of Week Log 3/14/3306

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 3/14/3306, details of which can be found here.

This week a total of 1254 systems were visited, spanning approximately 62,700lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 1545 systems have been visited spanning approximately 77451lys of travel distance. During the week, survey of the Galactic Centre region was completed, and the expedition moved on to the Empyrean Straights region. In the Galactic Centre Region, a few entries could not be confirmed as shown below. This includes:

  1. Supermassive Black Hole - As I have already visited this system as far back as before the horizons expansion came out, it appears the game will not allow me to scan it again

  2. Terraformable Ammonia World - This type of body doesn't actually exist and it's appearance in the codex seems to be a bug related to the temperature

  3. Rubicundum and Roseum Storm Clouds - These no longer exist in the Galactic Centre region unless they are present at nebulae that have not been discovered yet.

Codex Expedition - First Mistake

Unfortunately today I encountered my first oopsie of the very early stages of this expedition. While my survey of the Galactic Centre region was nearing it's end, I attempted to land on a planet to confirm a geological entry. While in glide I tabbed out to update my logs and did not hear the audio for exiting the glide, and I didn't realize until far too late that I was speeding straight into the ground.

The crash resulted in the loss of about 430 million credits worth of data including a few interesting finds shown below that are now fair game for other explorers, as I do not intend on backtracking to these locations. I've had far worse losses in the past (including once where I lost over 1 billion trying to land on a 5.3G planet) so my spirits are still as high. The final leg of the Galactic Centre survey will resume immediately, exercising more caution than ever when collecting surface entries. The planned route can be found here

Notes

-Roseum Lagrange Storm Cloud and Rubicundum Lagrange Storm Cloud were not found at expected locations, instead standard Rubicundum and Croceum Clouds were found respectively. Further research is needed to conclude whether those 2 storm clouds can even be found in this region anymore.

-Due to glitch, Prasinum and Albidum Sinuous Tubers do not appear in the in-game Codex, however they are confirmed in the EDSM codex.

-Due to glitch Supermassive Black Hole entry cannot be confirmed as I've already visited SagA* multiple times. The game will not allow me to scan the body again and does not detect it upon entry to the system.
