Codex Expedition - Odyssey Update

With the release of Elite Dangerous Odyssey the Codex Expedition was put on hold for some time, however the time has come for it to resume. I played the new content quite a bit and have come to the overwhelming conclusion that I am not interested in the miserable engineering grind that has been introduced. I wanted to wait until I got Mercenary elite but I simply can't be bothered at this point. The missions aren't fun, the farming methods make traditional ship engineer relogging look fun by comparison, and I've just had an overwhelming desire to go back into the void for weeks.

This time I will not be taking my fleet carrier or my ships with me. Just my trusty Krait Phantom and me. I want to go back to the roots of why I became so addicted to exploration way back in 3301. However because Odyssey added such a ridiculous amount of surface codex entries, this expedition will now be focused on sightseeing and visiting every codex region rather than trying to fill every single entry. I will still be picking up plenty of surface entries and doing exobiology but I just feel that it will be the most enjoyable if I'm not trying to be a completionist.

Target is set: Xothuia KP-E d12-538. Only 500 or so jumps and we will be back under way!

Codex Expedition - We Meet Again Bleia Sector

NOTE: Weekly logs for the codex expedition will resume upon completion of the Izanami region. I'm a bit busy outside of ED to compile data right now.

The survey of the Izanami region continues at a steady pace, and today I reached the threshold of the infamous and mysterious Bleia sector. This is a huge section of 5 sectors (Bleia1 - Bleia5) that are permit locked for unknown reasons. This is my first time visiting this area since 3303.

Codex Expedition - End of Week Log 3/6/3307

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 3/6/3307. Details of the expedition can be found here.

This week a total of 253 systems were visited spanning approximately 16,200lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 8,207 systems have been visited encompassing approximately 470,594lys of travel distance.

During the week survey of the Arcadian Stream region was completed and the expedition is now moving on to the Izanami region. A total of 1 codex entry could not be confirmed as detailed below:

  • Roseum Sinuous Tubers | The only tubers that can be found in the Arcadian Stream region are Blatteum, Lindigoticum, Violaceum, and Viride. Based on my previous experiences in the Galactic Centre region I suspect that Roseum could be found at some point a few years ago but some kind of change made by FD caused them to disappear or change to the others listed previously. I visited a total of 10 sites that were reported to have Roseum tubers and none of them had it.

The expedition is now moving on to the Izanami region, which is region 7 of 42 to be surveyed. This is the first region of the expedition that I largely have never explored before so it will likely take longer than the previous ones. Initial progress is as stated below.

Izanami Region Progress

  • Stars: 7 Confirmed of 40 Reported / 17% Completed
  • Gas Giants: 0 Confirmed of 9 Reported / 0% Completed
  • Terrestrial Planets: 0 Confirmed of 19 Reported / 0% Completed
  • Geology and Anomalies: 0 Confirmed of 33 Reported / 0% Completed
  • Organic Structures: 0 Confirmed of 23 Reported / 0% Completed
  • All Entries Combined: 7 Confirmed of 124 Reported / 5% Completed

Codex Expedition - End of Week Log 2/27/3307

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 2/27/3307. Details of the expedition can be found here.

This week a total of 376 systems were visited, spanning approximately 24,064lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition 7,954 systems have been visited encompassing approximately 454,394lys of travel distance.

During the week survey of the Arcadian Stream region continued and is now nearing completion. There are no entries that were not able to be found so far and it is expected that all entries will be confirmed. Progress in the region is as follows:

Arcadian Stream Region Progress

  • Stars: 36 Confirmed of 40 Reported / 90% Completed
  • Gas Giants: 10 Confirmed of 10 Reported / 100% Completed
  • Terrestrial Planets: 17 Confirmed of 20 Reported / 85% Completed
  • Geology and Anomalies: 14 Confirmed of 22 Reported / 64% Completed
  • Organic Structures: 3 Confirmed of 9 Reported / 33% Completed

Codex Expedition - End of Week Log 2/20/3307

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 2/20/3307. Details of the expedition can be found here.

This week a total of 1285 systems were visited, spanning approximately 82,240ly of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 7578 systems have been visited encompassing approximately 430,327 ly of travel distance.

During the week survey of the Norma Arm region was quickly completed and the expedition has since moved on to the Arcadian Stream region. A total of 1 codex entries could not be confirmed in the Norma Arm region: Proto Lagrange Cloud. The locations where this entry was reported were incorrect, likely having been changed similar to some of the Lagrange clouds in the Galactic Centre region. This entry probably still exists in the region but is not yet confirmed, and since there are not really any spawn criteria for that type of cloud I decided to move on to the next region.

Codex Expedition - Region Completion Log 2/9/3307

The following is a region completion log for the codex expedition, the details of which can be found here.

Since my last weekly log in August 3306 a lot has been happening outside of the game that prevented me from playing ED very much, but things have finally settled down and the expedition will continue normally now. Weekly logs will now resume starting next Saturday (2/20/3307).

Since the last weekly log, 1732 systems were visited encompassing approximately 112,600lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 6293 systems have been visited spanning 348,087lys of travel distance. During this period survey of the Odin's Hold region was completed

In total for the expedition, 4561 systems have been visited spanning approximately 235,487lys of travel distance. During the week the expedition finally reached the Odin's Hold region and the early stages of survey began.

Odin's Hold Region Progress

Odin's Hold is region #4 of the 42 regions that will be surveyed. Current progress is as follows:

  • Stars: 9 Confirmed of 40 Reported / 22.5% Completed
  • Gas Giants: 7 Confirmed of 10 Reported / 70% Completed

  • Organic Structures: 0 Confirmed of 19 Reported / 0% Completed
  • All Entries Combined: 31 Confirmed of 119 Reported / 26% Completed

There are no systems or points of interest thus far, as the survey phase of the expedition has only just begun. Future logs will include photo evidence as well as information on interesting finds and as always, codex entries that cannot be found for whatever reason.

Codex Expedition - End of Week Log 8/22/3306

The following is the end of week log for the Codex Expedition for the week ending 8/22/3306, details of which can be found here.

This week a total of 132 systems were visited, spanning approximately 7831lys of travel distance. In total for the expedition, 4393 systems have been visited spanning approximately 224,916lys of travel distance. This was a short week of travel that began on Thursday, and the entirety of Thu-Sat was spent traveling towards the Odin's Hold region, which is the next location to be surveyed. Neither the Fleet Carrier nor NEV Reality Bridge have arrived in the region yet, this is expected to happen no later than Monday.

There is no Codex completion progress to be reported this week as the survey phase has not begun.

Codex Expedition - Liftoff!

The final Elite rank has been earned: Triple Elite

The new exploration ship is outfitted and fully engineered: NEV Reality Bridge

The Fleet Carrier is fueled to the absolute limit: Tritium Depot

And finally the first region base camp coordinates are locked in: Expedition Resumes in Odin's Hold

The Codex Expedition has officially resumed as of 8/20/3306 at approximately 2AM. I will be picking up right where I left off in Odin's Hold which is the 4th of the 42 regions to be surveyed. End of week logs will also begin being published again starting immediately. The regions that have already been completed are as follows:

  • Galactic Centre
  • Empyrean Straits
  • Ryker's Hope

The survey details for these regions can be found in earlier logbook entries before the expedition went on hiatus. The end of week log for this week (ending 8/22) will likely not include much survey progress aside from increased system count and travel distance, as most of my time this week will be spent traveling to Odin's hold, however I will make note of any points of interest along the way there.

Codex Expedition - Restart Date Change

enter image description here

The time is coming ever closer for the Codex Expedition to resume, however I unfortunately did not achieve triple elite in time for the planned August 16th departure. Based on my current pace I expect to be elite in combat by August 18th at the latest. Factoring in some last minute engineering tweaks for my new exploration ship, the new departure date is now set in stone for August 20th. This time I will be bringing along my Fleet Carrier to reach places never before seen, and I could not be more excited. Exploration awaits!
