Log 0: To boldly go... 216ly away?
  • I just started playing ED(jan 2022) somewhat casually. Did some trading, killed some pirates and I was now thinking about exploration. Not to make billions or go to the other side of the galaxy but to see the many different beautifully rendered stars and planets up close, maybe find something new and get my name on the map. I had heard about dedicated explorers who try to build their ship in just the right way and then go on months long journeys into the void and get into all sorts of adventures. But that method seems a bit overkill for my modest ambitions. Besides as every seasoned commander will tell you go 500ly in any direction and you will discover something eventually.
  • But before that I was going to get some upgrades from Farseer. Soon enough I find out that I need to go to Maia to get meta-alloys. It looked like a pretty long trip but nothing my pirate-hunting cobra couldn't do with a few stops. So I chart a course in the general direction of 42 n Persei and off I go, scanning everything in my way, mostly to look at the pretty pictures and get the codex entries.
  • The second half of the trip takes me through mostly uninhabited space including a particularly unimpressive cluster of brown dwarfs and T-tauri stars(50ly SW of Maruda) many of which don't even have a single planet. And there I stumbled on my first discovery. And now just 216ly away from Sol around a brown dwarf in Hyades Sector IX-Q a6-0 there are 5 balls of ice that were first mapped by Rodnie Kean.
  • That's awfully close to Sol! I wonder what else can I discover in civilizations backyard?
