Punched thru the "Tough sector for 46ly ship southwest of Beagle Point"

I got my vengeance against the tough region of space southwest of BP that defeated my purpose during Distant Worlds 2 (see the log entry titled "Tough sector for 46ly ship southwest of Beagle Point" made almost a year ago).

I returned to the place of earlier trouble and now went thru that space with my newer, highly engineered AspX Iki-Turso during Pegasus Run expedition. The space was no match for this 69ly range ship and a handful of jumponium.

Back home from Distant Worlds 2 expedition

Arrived back home to Bubble from Distant Worlds 2 expedition. It was my very first expedition and what a trip it was! Full of "firsts" for me. A lot was learned about flying safe and about how not to.

The tally of my trip was as follows:

  • 6328 jumps made
  • 308k light years traveled
  • 54212 scans
  • 4500 new systems discovered for EDSM
  • 2.3 billion credits from exploration

My ship of the journey, ASP Explorer Den of Caldomir was put into museum as it was when arrived into the first inhabited system - Deciat - in the Bubble. It was soon after that transported to its current exhibition location at Jameson Memorial station. The paint work is so worn that the DW2 decal is barely showing on it.

Start of neutron highway in the west

When coming back from Beagle Point taking the southwest direction from there, the Neutron Highway practically starts around system Blue Prou RD-A d14-1 when looking at the route from north.

Oopaigh TH-V D2-1 might be a more northern place tho.

Life undiscovered

Greae Byoe YE-A g0 B 10 has 5 bio signals. But the planet has 4.54G gravity so I had to leave it for now.

Tough sector for 46ly ship southwest of Beagle Point

I decided to take my own random direction out of Beagle Point - and took southwest. After all, people have been reported to cross these regions with shorter range vessels before so I thought to be fine there. I also had an ample supply of jumponium to get me across and out of bad situations.

With 46ly max range, the plotter worked quite well up to a couple of thousands of light years at a time. I was able to go pretty much straight overall. Altho, it was noticeable that the jumps lengths were somewhat erratic and the "straight line" a bit jagged as the plotter struggled to find the fastest route.

Then, around Puwaae KL-N c20-0, things got more difficult. Plotter started failing and I had to take westward to get forward. Jumps got even more erratic until the plotter simply refused to go anywhere but back. A closer look to the galaxy map revealed that I had entered a tough sector for any 46ly ship.

For the next few hours, I tried to continue to the overall southwest direction by manually plotting around and trying to find a route to more dense areas ahead. It helps a little to keep the fuel tank half empty for most of the time. Luckily, practically all systems were scoopable there.

Finally, at system PUWAAE KM-W D1-0 after already spending plenty of jumponiums (mostly J3) and seeing little hope of getting back to normal jumping for hundreds or over a thousand light years ahead, it was time to get out of the place.

I saw Abyssinal Hope Depot somewhat close by straight east of me. I thought that would be a safe destination for a few reasons. That system was described to be a good place for stocking them up so I thought there is at least some way out from there too even for shorter range ships.

The Depot ended up being relatively easily reached by using only a few J3s on the way. There was a clear border in star density as exiting the PUWAAE sector from my direction and entering the Depot's sector.

Now, time to find a way around that and continue the overall plan of going southwest from BP.

At the Edge in Semotus Beacon

Black. Lawless. Emptiness. Loneliness. Nothing.

There is nothing but Black out there in front of me. And behind, there's the one and only home, the Milky Way or Linnunrata, as they say back home. This is it, the far edge of it. There is nothing more to see in this direction so I need to head back.

It is cold out here. I need to turn on the heat. Fire up the engines again. Whatever will follow. I have to decide on that.

But maybe for a minute still, I'll stare at the rest of the Universe. Maybe for a minute still...

Lunch at Beagle Point

Yesterday, after a 107 days of journey with Distant Worlds 2 crowd, finally reached the Beagle Point. Took the SRV out and drove it on to the edge of the Legacy Crater. Rigged the camera drone to offer a wide open view over the crater and the surroundings. Popped a bottle of sparkling and had a nice and quiet lunch break staring at the World, the Universe and Everything. Enjoyed the moment to the fullest and reflected back on the troubles and wonders that brought me here.

Then, moved on. Just a bit further still. A few more jumps outwards before thinking of the way back home.
