Around the Rim Day 6
  • Start ----- Crab Sector DL-Y d9 (Station X)
  • Stop ------ Slyaips SA-D d13-4
  • Distance -- 774.4 LY
  • Distance from Sol ~7,609 ly
  • Headed towards Spaidou WE-R e4-0 (58 Jumps to go)

Today was an OK travel day. Was able to leave Station-X without incident... well, at least I didn't have anyone trying to attack me, though I had a little trouble getting out of the mail slot for some reason. Weird.

The first jump, the VERY first jump, I told Eli to scan the system for me... and all my system controls went away! And all while plummeting into a star's corona! (SIGH!) Ah well. After wrestling control back I headed back out scanning systems.

One of the planets I scanned was annoying - it showed as a YELLOW world. On scanning it was basically a snowball with sulfur-dioxide. Really not worth it.

After some good traveling, I decided to stop in system "Slyaips SA-D d13-4", especially after scanning the system and finding some planets that are BLUE!

After scanning the snowballs at under 1k Credits each, a few High Metal worlds at about 34K credits.... "13-4 6" scanned in as a Water World worth about 612K Credits! "13-4 5" also a Water World is worth 617K Credits!

So, over 1.25Mil Credits for this system alone.

Not totally sure this is going to be lucrative when all is said and done really, and that is disappointing.

In any case, I've dropped out of Supercruise so I can rest before the next leg south.

Safe travels, Commanders.

Around the Rim Day 5
  • Start ----- Phroi Phoe FB-Q c8-14
  • Stop ------ Crab Sector DL-Y d9 (Station X)
  • Distance -- 2,714.64 LY
  • Distance from Sol ~7,000 ly
  • NEW SOUTHERN WAYPOINT SELECTED - Spaidou WE-R e4-0

After doing a little research, I found out that there was an asteroid base Galactic South from where I was, and not TOO far away. So I decided to make a... Side Trip of just Scoop-and-Honk-and-Jump out to the Crab Nebula.

It was an otherwise uninteresting trip.... until I got to Station X's system. And then, holy HELL! Suddenly I was SUPER popular! Interdicted after I started heading for the Nav Beacon; DENIED! Nice try, guy. Once out at the beacon, some pirate just wanted 5T of my cargo... could have just thrown him some limpets and been done with it, I suppose. BUT, I tanked with the shields and booked my ass away from the Nav Beacon and set the engines to 'Maximum Roast' for the station.

Yes, Asteroid Bases are PRETTY! No lie! Unfortunately I couldn't buy anything here - was hoping I could get an SRV, but no die: Fuel Up, Repair Up, sell my mapping data and that's it. Ah well.

Next time I'll be headed to Spaidou as my new southern target.. and MAN, will that put me on the fringes!

Safe travels, Commanders.

Around the Rim Day 4
  • Start ----- Pyult GD-R c21-3
  • Stop ------ Phroi Phoe FB-Q c8-14
  • Distance -- 571.23 LY
  • Distance from Sol 4,513.20 ly
  • Aprox 87 jumps to Southern way-point SCHADGAR IK-N B20-0

A few interesting systems again today! A few I didn't bother scanning, because, well, let's face it - snowballs are NOT interesting and don;t pay worth a damn.

But then things got WEIRD! As in CREEPY-weird.

In the last system, I discovered TWO "Degraded Emission Threat Zero".

The first was, apparently, a destroyed Imperial Cutter. We were able to identify it by the engine nacelle after a little snooping around. A Small Survey Data Cache was collected from the wreckage. Location - Phroi Phoe FB-Q c8-14 7

However, the second was FAR and away stranger. We were able to identify at least three ships having been destroyed here: 1 Sidewinder positively identified (3/4 of the outer hull intact, but looked to have been kinetically squashed a bit), and at least 2 Hauler/Adder-type ships; It's difficult to tell which and how many since there were only some parts to work off of, but at least two right-wing assemblies and one nosecone were found & identified. I'm of the opinion that at least one was an Adder, owning to a nosecone that was found being more rounded than a Hauler's. MORE importantly, said nosecone still had power running through the front lights. Also curiously a Large Survey Data Cache was collected, as opposed to the small one from the Cutter earlier. Location - Phroi Phoe FB-Q c8-14 8

What these ships might have been doing out here is unknown. It's possible they were part of separate expeditionary groups that got unlucky; since I'm on a mostly strait line Galactic South, it wouldn't be out of sorts to have this be the case. Since all of these ships could make 7.5LY jumps collectively standard loadout, it's possible they were out surveying and.... well, there's the question, right? What might have happened to them? The Sidewinder was obviously mangled, but the rest hard to figure out. ESPECIALLY as one nose still had power for the lights.

I've shut down the ship for now - planning on picking up again soon. Still headed South, of course. But with a little more worry.

Safe travels, Commanders.

Around the Rim Day 3
  • Start ----- Flyooe Eohn TD-I a64-2
  • Stop ------ Pyult GD-R c21-3 5 a ( Landed - Latitude: -23.616522 / Longitude: 176.475937 )
  • Distance -- 1049.01 LY
  • Distance from Sol 3,948.55 ly
  • Aprox 100 jumps to Southern way-point SCHADGAR IK-N B20-0

Today's trip went FAR better than expected. Was planning on Scooping and Honking and being bored by ignoring systems with virtually nothing to them, to finding a NUMBER of systems with multiple ringed, gas giant, metal rich systems!

Decided to set down on an icy moon this time - with 0.003G, so next to no chance to screw anything up.

We'll see what tomorrow brings...

Safe Travels, commanders!

Around the Rim Day 2
  • Start ----- Slegao PQ-U a112-0
  • Stop ------ Flyooe Eohn TD-I a64-2
  • Distance -- 533.49 LY
  • Distance from Sol 2,937.55 LY
  • Aprox 125 jumps to Southern way-point SCHADGAR IK-N B20-0

Today was slower going than I'd like. Am already having tedium setting in - mostly because of the great number of unremarkable worlds I'm discovering. It's not that there's a lot of them, roughly 6 to a star at this point, but the relatively crap ones I've seen so far. Except for one beauty of a system with some notable binary-ringed planets, I'd really like to see something OTHER than just snowballs. But, it's likely I should really just get used to that. (SIGH!) OK, ok, well.... we'll see what happens next time.

Around the Rim...

After failing to map my way to the Southern Beacon, I'm forced to limit my southern trip to system SCHADGAR IK-N B20-0 since the stars are too far apart at the original waypoint.

BUT... the trip goes on and we are headed out Into the Black.

Safe Travels, Commanders.

====UPDATE Stopping for a rest at Slegao PQ-U a112-0 , placing me at about 2,400 ly from Home. We're still 138 jumps away from SCHADGAR and we're slow-going since I've started finding non-scanned systems already. So far, nearly all of them have been icy / cold, but at least they're now 'mine'.

The Brick In The black is a GO for launch tomorrow

So, this is it. Asp Explorer "ES-517 'Harmony's Hoof' " is slated to take its first big step into the void towards the Southern Rim of the Milky Way. After that, we'll be charting a flight around the rim counter clockwise. With luck, we'll have no troubles.

...but, then again, I do still believe in The Great God Murphy.

Ship is prepped with a jump range of about 42 LY per jump, with about 5 T per jump max, giving me a 250+ LY range before fueling is mandatory. With luck, I shouldn't need a Fuel Rat call out.... but, we'll see.

Looking at some of the navigational points available, my current flight plan is based on the current beacon network: 1) South to the rim: Notus - The 'Southern' Meridian ( Hypuae Euq ZK-P d5-0 ) 2) East to Amundsen's Star ( Lyed YJ-I d9-0 ) 3) East to Sepositus Beacon ( Angosk OM-W d1-0 ) 4) North-East to Pernicious - The 'Eastern' Meridian ( Plae Eur IC-D d12-0 ) 5) North-East to Magellan's Star ( Ood Fleau ZJ-I d9-0 ) 6) North-West to Asterous - The 'Northern' Meridian ( Iorady JO-Z d13-0 ) 7) A 'Quick Hop' to Semotus Beacon ( Oevasy SG-Y d0 ) 8) South-West to Erikson's Star ( Sphiesi HX-L d7-0 ) 9) South to Manifest Destiny - The Western Meridian ( Cyuefoo LC-D d12-0 ) 10) Back to Notus 11) North to Home at Njikan III / Smeaton Port

Right now, I have no idea how long this will take, nor what I'll discover in the black. But, with Luna as my co-pilot, I should be safe out there.

Until later, Commanders! o7/)
