• ED-D started out a little sluggish today, but after a short time spent syncing up with the home office, he was happy.

A LOT of system with really complicated orbital patterns - and some strange worlds. Got another Earth-Like and Terraformable... but also got a high-value gas giant for some reason. ED-D said it's worth about 600k Cr, though I have no idea why.

Right now, sleep is the order of the day.

• ED-D received another update, taking him offline for a little while. Looks like he didn't miss out on any of the journey, though. Just didn't comment on it.

Decided to adjust my flight path to by-pass Station X... and took an opportunity to visit Crab Pulsar... only to discover it's a White Dwarf. I've had bad experiences with White Dwarves. BUT.... I was able to supercharge my jump drive on the first try, and I squeaked out a single jump of 182.47 Ly! Didn't breath the whole way!

Currently still only scanning bodies that appear to be worthwhile - blue-green in the star's habitable zone. Some water worlds and another Earth-Like, so we're doing well!

And tomorrow is another flight day.

• ED-D behaved himself today. Apparently now that he's gotten his updated system, he's loving life again.... so to speak.

WOOHOO! My FIRST Earth Like World! Granted it's WAY off the beaten path and well far from the system's entry point, but it's still there! After the folks at Mission Control suggested I call it "Shujin's Planet" or "Shujin's World" or... uhm... "Fluttershy", I actually suggested it be known as, "Pilgo". As we got close enough to observe ground formations, the first thing spotted was an archipelago, so "Pilgo" feels right to me. I don't need a whole planet named after me, just maybe a small city.... like "Otisburgh", maybe.

We're camped in space near a star with no orbiting bodies, so I'd say we're safe enough. The closer we get to Crab Nebula / Station X, the more I'm getting worried about what path I'll have to take and re-plot. Last thing I want to do is deal with pirates... again!

For now, this was a GOOD exploration day... and likely VERY profitable!

• Streaming: Due to poor connectivity for people at Mission Control, I closed down the telemetry stream. Personally I blame the crappy data coverage out here near the Rim.
• ED-D: ED-D was a little... uhm.... 'Slow' today. I also blame this on a combination of the crappy data and a LARGE update that was pushed down. He's updated now but we'll have to see what happens tomorrow.

We're headed back towards Station x again, but with a different plan this time. Since I can't do the Around The Rim like I wanted to originally, we're working our way towards (but not TO) Station X, which will put us 'under' the plane of the galaxy for the trip home. The plan is to head under then pop up at Njikan - giving exploration data that way.

PLUS... We're only scanning the system's main star and any bodies in the 'habitable zone' for it. Between this method and having already visited a number of these systems, we've cut down on time spent in systems and picked up the travel distance, as shown in today's data. Looks like I'll be able to get nearly a Million Credits per system I dwell in this way. Maybe it'll be worth it, too.

So, another rest period - and we'll see how close I can get to Station X before I have to worry about pirates.... AGAIN!

Maybe not the MOST Southern Possible Point, but we got where I had wanted to get to! And it only took... Well.. WAY too long.

And, yes, I've decided NOT to do a Rim Job. I am NOT cut out for galaxy mapping. This part of the journey has been a HUGE chore.

So, now that I'm here, I'm going to make the return by heading back towards the Crab Nebula and Station X, and heading under the Galactic Plane , then shooting up to Njikan. No idea how many jumps this is going to take, but I am HOPING to do this FAR quicker.

now that ED-D is working correctly again, I'll be using his information more to ONLY scan planets that are in the habitable region of stars and obviously interesting worlds. I don;t want to scan whole systems JUST for the sake of scanning them any more. NOT worth it.

Checking my flight information, ED-D has not correctly logged my jumps, so there are a few where it LOOKS like I managed 60+ and 80+ LYs at a clip. Yeah, that was ED-D glitching up a bit. I'll see if I can fix that shortly.

My ship's A.I., Eli, was sent an update. Not sure it's quite right - might need another attempt at installing. Nothing bad happened, just a few quirks regarding how he won't always make commands happen.

Additionally the Discovery Computer, "E.D.Discovery (v8.3.3.0)" was VERY finicky at first; very sluggish and behind what I was doing / scanning. I had tried updating it to voice system 5 and changed it to a female voice.... and I'm not sure if that was the cause of the problem or not. Still, reverted back to Voice System 4 & Male... and it seems much better. He's earned the name, "ED" now.

A couple of NICE planets this time! Was especially loving the system with about a dozen high-metal bodies; about 35k per! can't wait to cash that one in, OR the one where someone scanned the star and the first planet... but left the rest behind. To be fair that ONE planet was worth about 600k, but still, bad form, Commander! If you're gunna scan, scan them all, hmm?

Set down for a rest again. I know I could just leave it in space, but it feels good to be able to land & shut down all the systems.

This was a better shift. FAR better. Found the voice feedback for the data computer and turned that on. So now I get a little more feedback as things are scanned. So now I have 3 'competing' voices in my computers.

Found a few water / habitable / terraformable worlds and THAT was fun. Several metal riches and sadly TOO many snowballs. (SIGH!) Ah well.

Even though I'm not going to do the whole "Rim Job" thing, I'm still looking forward to the data drop-off once I get home. I actually miss mining (and the occasional shoot-em-up).

Took the monitoring systems off my ship's telemetry just so I could get a little more travel time in without having anyone breathing over my shoulder. Was good. Only jumped 4 systems, but a lot of high-value bodies to scan.

I'm feeling more and more like I should do what was suggested: Make it to the Southern point, then come over or under the Galactic Plane and make short hops and scan everything on the way. It'll still be tedious, but I'll have a lot of money on the way. We'll see.

Back on duty tomorrow to finish scanning Slyaips BS-I d10-0. Still got a number of bodies to go before I jump again.

This was a SLOW travel day - did a great deal of system scanning however. Several high-value water and metal worlds.

My biggest problem is trying to decide if this is something I really want to do. I mean, the romance of going out there and doing a ring around the galaxy is great, but the reality of the tedium is getting to me. Add to that how little effect I would have on the actual cartographic situation for the other Commanders out there. I'm having a serious existential crisis about this.

Maybe I just miss mining.

In any case, I actually landed on one of the ice balls, shut down non-essential power, and am camping for the night. The canopy is frosted up, the engine shows 9% heat, I have a HELL of a view of the galaxy...

And I'm over 7,700 light years from home.
