(Mandalay)
I was feeling nostalgic today after camping out last night. After I returned from yesterday's little adventure and turned in my data, I had a nice breakfast and relaxed for a bit and caught up on some news. After that I cleaned up and got the Cobra MK 3 ready for a little exploration trip. It's been quite a while since I've sat in this beautiful piece of machinery. With the guns stripped out of her and all the non-combat gear stowed away and a guardian FSD booster installed along with some specialized lightening here and there, she'll do almost 34 light years per jump which isn't too terribly bad. I could probably get a lot more out of her with some engineering but I'm not going to sweat it.
I made twenty-one jumps with her and found ten white dwarves, and eleven main sequence stars. Unfortunately, only one of the white dwarves was previously undiscovered, the other nine had been discovered by CMDRs that came before me. That is completely understandable considering the proximity to Colonia these White dwarves are. I'm actually surprised I found an undiscovered one to be honest! Not one of the eleven main sequence stars was a first discovery by me either, not surprising at all. But I still had fun using the old Cobra and I plan to use her again. You can bet on that.
As far as Exobiology goes, the pickings were pretty slim. I was only able to sample two specimens in the Cobra, a bacterium and a Fonticula. A mere ten million credits to show for the day but it definitely beats a swift kick in the ass..
CMDR Bullet out..
What a wild day I had today. I don't know what got into me but for some reason I decided I wanted to discover as many white dwarves as I had time for. I must be crazy because white dwarves scare me only a little less than black holes do.. But there I was in a small field of them so there I went chasing them down. I found nineteen in all today. I may continue the quest tomorrow, I haven't made up my mind yet but, I'm still in a position to do so as I didn't make it back to my carrier tonight. I decided to camp out on Eol Prou PX-J c9-35 ABCD 2 C for the evening. It had six exobiological signatures that I just finished sampling, and I was pretty beat up from the SRV. I haven't camped out in a while now, so I figured, what the hell..
I made a total of twenty-five jumps today but only 14 of them were first discoveries. I did sample ten exobiologicals as well and fortunately those were all made of first footfall worlds by me. I am very happy about that. All of those samples will bring a five times bonus at Vista Genomics when I get back to my carrier tomorrow. Hopefully I will have more exobio data to go along with what I am bringing back with me today.
Dinner tonight will be light. I'm actually not very hungry. I will probably have a big breakfast in the morning though along with two cups of coffee. Enough about that though. Time to cut this log entry here, until tomorrow..
CMDR Bullet out..
I did a little exobiology in the Mandalay today. I found a total of four exobiologicals across two worlds. The system had an absolute total of seven exobiological signatures but, the rest were only bacterium cultures, and I wasn't interested in collecting them and quite frankly, wasting my time. I didn't travel far from the carrier today, but I was away for a good length of time. I spent a lot of time tracking down one particular species of bacterium on one world called Bacterium Bullaris. It was practically invisible and nearly impossible to locate. I almost let it go but I just couldn't let it get the best of me. In a last-ditch effort to locate this elusive bacterium, I actually left the planet and flew to another area where the ground was a lighter color. Sure enough, the bacterium was now showing up, and I was now able to collect the required three samples with ease.
Pretty much all the star systems have been discovered around Colonia, but I think it's fascinating that many times I find that the system bodies have barely been discovered and are just waiting to be explored for the first time. They are still pristine hunting grounds for exobioligists and geologists alike looking to make a name for themselves. I plan to make another local exobio-hop around Colonia tomorrow like I did today and see if I can find some more gems that have been overlooked, shall we say. Perhaps I'll get lucky and find some more passed up worlds with rich exobiological signatures just waiting to be discovered by yours truly.
Now the question, which ship should I take?
CMDR Bullet out..
I had to make my way back today to visit some rich exobiological systems I passed yesterday. That's just the nature of how this universe works, that is at least how it seems to work with this commander anyway.. It was late in the evening when I discovered these particularly rich exobiological systems, and I did the best that I could to document them. Well, I'm glad that I did because it really paid off. Those two systems yielded six worlds with over thirty exobiological signatures between them. It took the better part of the day to find them all.
Before I made my way back to the exobiology though I did jump over to Colonia to replace my fuel scoop with a larger one. I just couldn't stand how slowly my old fuel scoop was working so I doubled its intake. What a difference that made! I am refueling in half the time and moving on much quicker now. But for me the real shocker was discovering that I could purchase a Guardian FSD booster at colonia. I had no freakin idea I could do that. So not only did I more than double my fuel scooping ability, I added nearly ten light years of jump range to V3NOM! She now jumps over 40 light years at a pop. Needless to say, I'll be adding a Guardian FSD booster to the rest of my fleet shortly.
So, I made only ten jumps on this exobiology trip today, all main sequence stars and all previously discovered except for three. That was an unexpected pleasure to get first discovery on three systems around this area. I think I will bum around this region of space for a few more days before I pull anchor and move on. There is no telling what I might find, if anything..
CMDR Bullet out..
I outfitted my Cobra MK V for exploration today. It didn't do half bad actually. My jump range is just over 30 light years which is good but not great. Thirty-five to forty would be preferable but I'll take what I can get. Perhaps a Guardian FSD booster would be in order here. I like the footprint of this ship too, it is small and can find small, tight spots to land in.. I can even carry TWO SRVs. I like that a lot. She doesn't hang over quite as much as the Mandalay does, but she can't even compete with the Lonestar's range so, the V3NOM will remain simply a 'Jack of all trades', but a damn good one at that.
As far as local exploration goes, I made twenty-seven jumps today rising above the galactic plane over the Colonia region. Of the twenty-seven jumps, thirteen of them were first discoveries by me so I am happy about that. On the way back I located two systems with several exobiological signatures on them, so I am going to return to them tomorrow and sample them all only I'd like a bigger fuel scoop with me. So, I'm going to go shopping for a slightly larger fuel scoop for the V3NOM tomorrow before I go back to sample all that exobiology. Besides, it simply got too late and I got too tired to sample any more exobiology for the day. And also, if I find that it has previously been sampled, I am not going to waste my time with it. Without a first footfall, it isn't worth my time or my crew's time.
Alright, I am tired and hungry, and I have my work cut out for me tomorrow. Time to end this log entry.
CMDR Bullet out..
Today was spent bumming around the Colonia region exploring the area in the Asp Explorer. It felt good to use the old gal once again. I swapped the Guardian FSD booster from the Mandalay into the Geometry Dash which brought her jump range close to 48 light years. I also changed the Asp Explorer's original FSD for an (SCO) FSD. The Asp is sure tough to control and really heats up fast when the SCO is energized. Clearly the Asp is not optimized for that kind of power, but boy does she ever haul ass when the SCO kicks in. It's downright scary!
I am considering doing a speed run back to the bubble and a Guardian site to collect the resources for another Guardian FSD Booster as well as purchase a Panther Clipper now.. The reasons keep growing. Let's face it, I need to keep busy, and I need to have goals. I wouldn't mind visiting Felicity either and having her put the mass manager on the Mandalay's FSD. That will squeeze another light year or two out of her per jump I think, which should bring her jump range up to just about 80 light years even. Not too shabby in my book.
On the subject of finance, between Universal Cartographics and Vista Genomics, I made roughly 130,000,000 credits today. Not great but not bad either. I made thirty-four jumps and visited four black holes, two neutron stars, thirty-four stars in total with twelve of them being first discoveries by me. All the rest were previously discovered. I was able to get first footfall on a few worlds so that was nice, I like getting those in there when I can. Other than that, that about wraps this log entry up.
CMDR Bullet out..
I must say, the exploration around the Colonia area is still rather rich if you just apply yourself a little bit. I did a little easy exploration less than 500 LY from Colonia and found several undiscovered systems with quite a bit of exobiology within them. After doing the math, I calculated that the few hours of exploration I put in today and the discoveries I made, I earned enough credits between Universal Cartographics and Vista Genomics to sustain my carrier and crew for a little over seventeen weeks. If the exobiology stays this plentiful out here in deep space, I should have absolutely no problem maintaining this carrier and its crew while increasing my credit base, slowly but surly.
Today, I made thirty-two jumps. I discovered one black hole, two previously discovered neutron stars and six undiscovered white dwarfs. I discovered Twenty-one main sequence stars, some of which had been previously discovered by other commanders and one brown dwarf. That is the star report for the day today.
I have been reading the brochures on the Panther Clipper recently. What a freight carrying monster that thing is. It is a shame it isn't available out here in the Colonia region. One could do some serious mining with that monster. I could do a speed run down to the bubble and buy one and then a speed run back and have it sent up.. I'll have to think about that a while. That's enough daydreaming for this log entry.
CMDR Bullet out..
I am still waiting in my carrier which is in the system Eol Prou LW-L c8-132. What I am waiting for is my Asp Explorer to arrive from the bubble. It has been roughly 24 hours or so at the time of this log entry which means about 36 hours to go before she arrives. I'm looking forward to her arrival. I have also been thinking about the Panther Clipper lately. I am wondering if it is a ship I should add to my inventory at this time now that it is available for credits. But I have to ask the question, what in the hell would I do with a ship that big out in the black? It's hardly an exploration ship. I'm not even sure it's available here in Colonia.
Well, to pass the time while I'm waiting for the Asp to arrive, I have been doing small exploration runs around the Colonia region. I made twenty-two long jumps today with fourteen of them being first discoveries. I found three neutron stars, all of which had been previously discovered and oddly enough only two planets with one exobiological signature on each, so I skipped them both. They hardly would have been worth my time. Tomorrow I will shoot off in another direction in hopes of locating exobiology, I have bills to pay now.
Well, time to get cleaned up. I think I'll have something to eat at the bar and a couple drinks, maybe chat it up a bit with the crew and see what they think. That will do it for this log entry.
CMDR Bullet out..
So I am back in Deriso, the fleet carrier administration system I received and first outfitted my fleet carrier in. I was almost 1500 LY on my journey to Sag.A when I realized that the crew really needs a social space to hang out in instead of the hallways and a bar is just the place to do that. I also realized that having a Pioneer Supplies available was also a good idea, so we turned the carrier around and made way for Deriso. The added weekly costs are negligible really and I can easily pay for that with just the income from Universal Cartographics Data.
Today I made three carrier jumps and five local jumps around the Colonia area. Three carrier jumps to get back to Deriso and five jumps in the T-11 to mine tritium to replace the tritium I used to get here. I also bought some weaponry for the T-11 for defense including a Multi Cannon and a heavy projectile cannon to compliment the two pulse lasers that came equipped with the T-11 originally. Eventually I'll get around to an engineer to beef them up a bit but for now they'll be fine for what I'm doing, and I won't be in inhabited space too much longer anyway.
Right now, I am debating if I want to ship a couple more of my ships up here from the bubble before I finally leave this area for a good while. I wouldn't mind having a T-8 along and I have two of them back at Frey. It's just that one is a hauler and one is a miner and, well, I have a miner. I have decided to have my ASP Explorer, the Geometry Dash, sent up to the carrier. She has half the jump range of the Mandalay at around 40 LY but is a very capable ship and has sentimental value. I'll enjoy taking her out once in a while. She'll be here in about sixty hours.
That'll do it for this log entry.
CMDR Bullet out..
The fleet carrier is still a learning experience for this old commander. it is going to take some getting used to, I can tell you that. Yesterday I was able to park it around a planet, today I couldn't figure it out if my life depended on it.. Tomorrow I'll have to figure it out because I'll need to rely on that skill in the future quite a bit I believe. I'm not sure what it was I did before to actually park the fleet carrier around a planet rather than the star of the system I navigated to, but I remember it involved the system map rather than the galaxy map, but the system map isn't really an option in the carrier navigation menu. I'm sure there is some sort of trick to it that I'll need to figure out, I just happened to luck out and stumble upon it early on, but I'll be dammed if I can remember how I did it!
On a lighter note, I was able to discover and scan fourteen exobiologicals and discover quite a few white dwarfs. In total, I discovered one black hole, two neutron stars and four white dwarfs today. The total take for the day amounted to nearly a third of a billion credits.
I am now beginning to think I was a bit too conservative in the outfitting of my fleet carrier. I should have outfitted the bar as well and am wishing I had. If I can when I reach Sag.A, I will, but I don't think there is a carrier admin there. Perhaps I should jump her back to colonia before I get too far and outfit her. I'm sure the crew would appreciate it and keeping the crew happy is priority. I think I will do just that. I have absolutely no doubts about keeping the Silbergeschoss well-funded. And keeping her full of tritium is not a problem either now that I have a kitted-out T-11 so, back she goes.
Alright, time to end this log entry and get ready for the next day ahead.
