The Matryoshka Stars

The Matryoshka stars are a rare set of stars - a star orbiting a star orbiting a star orbiting a set of binary stars. Thus their name "The Matryoshka Stars", referencing the classic Russian "Matryoshka dolls".

Upon arriving in the system, you can see the inner three stars in close orbit of each other. The fourth is nearby, whilst the fifth is sadly too far out to contribute to the view

The Mighty

Planet 4 in this system is a heavy metal content world with 96.6 earth masses and a staggering 9.9 G of gravity - and suitable for landing. As of 11 July 3303 this is believed to the be the highest gravity environment in which a pilot can attempt a surface landing.

A tourist beacon exists for this planet, but even the most experienced pilot should think twice about taking passengers!

CMDR Sagall landed and working on exobiology. This particular body contained 7 different species of life.

Exploring a particularly large gas giant with even larger rings en route to The Mighty. Diamondback Explorer Squad Crowdstrike, SJM Dill Pickles, and Canada Goose, piloted by CMDRs, Felix Wargon, SeanShow and Sagall.

The Zebra

Bonfire Nebula

Like any good bonfire at a festival, this huge nebula can be seen from a very long distance away and provides a spectacular backdrop and a beacon to navigate in the region. Its interior is densely packed with stars and home to a sky full of red and orange colours, with the bright Galactic Core obscured from sight.

This nebula is a treasure trove with a verity of systems worth spending time exploring. This particular system is a waypoint for the Sagittarius-Carina Mission. Traveling through this waypoint system in one of the brightest spots of the nebula is pretty breathtaking and worth the 3000 ls journey to the landing site. This is a releatively low g world with lots of craters for the more daring SRV-pilot, and the surrounding systems have plenty to keep the cartographers and prospectors occupied.

Stellar Forge

A huge sector with a very high-number of white, blue-white and blue stars accompanied by uncountable T-Tauri-Stars making it quite a sight for any explorer approaching the Core from the 1st Quadrant regions. The sector is full of habitable worlds and in its upper regions contains many non-sequence-stars. Due to the high value of such stars a survey can prove a lucrative undertaking once the data is sold at Universal Cartographics. Beautiful nebulae can be found within this sector, too.

This particular system is a waypoint for the Sagittarius-Carina Mission. The planet for the landing site was chosen for its beautiful topography - there are hundreds of crater impacts on this world and again its a metal rich planet. The crater itself resembles a Yin Yang symbol.

Footfall's Limit

With an average temperature of 590 K at night and 1,152 K on the day, this world is constantly bombarded with radiation from its parent neutron star. Thus, it is recommended to disembark on the night side, to avoid the unsafe temperatures of the day side. Even though it is possible to disembark on the latter, it is not suggested to do so, as current suit technology can't handle temperatures this high without suffering heat damage.

Commanders who follow safety precautions will be rewarded with a stunning view of Dr. Kay's Heart.

Visitors are advised to be careful while walking around this planet, as the high temperatures aren't the only threat here: the high surface gravity itself should also not be underestimated. Doing so can lead to dangerous falls, even getting trapped if one is unlucky. In the worst possible scenario, a false move while climbing can lead to a lethal fall: while Commanders might be accustomed to using their suit's thrusters to soften landing, current suit technology can barely beat the gravity of this planet.

On another interesting note, this is the only planet in the system, and perhaps the largest body found orbiting a Neutron Star.

This system (heart) and the nearby nebula (soul) were named by Universal Cartographics after Dr. Kay Ross, an ancient 21st century Earth astrophysicist, in recognition of her work on modeling the Milky Way.

A transmitter satellite orbiting A 1 b repeats the following message at the start of every hour, in the Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet:

Dr Kay's Soul Nebula

This vast nebula lies 1230LY below the Galactic Plane and is home to many neutron stars and white dwarfs. Its flaming orange colours and the remains of many once-great stars that inspire its name nevertheless provide stunning scenery; sometimes eerie and dark and sometimes bright and blazing.

Spear Thistle Nebula

This whispy, purple planetary nebula is centered on a black hole. The low mass of the black hole makes it possible to experience lensing effects while travelling under normal propulsion. Combined with the bluish-purple background and the view towards the nearby Octopus nebula this makes for quite a scenery. This was featured in the holovid Stellar Ballet by CMDRs Skoomer and Zach.

The system also contains three icy bodies and a white star. It was originally scouted for the Sagittarius-Carina Mission.

The Chained Beast Located in the Western portion of the Inner Orion Spur, HD 191612 appears to be an ordinary O-class star when viewed on the galaxy map. However, visitors to the star will be amazed to find something unique: a 45 solar radii F-class supergiant, designated HD 191612 9, is in a planetary orbit. As of 3308/10/17, this is the only known case where an F-class supergiant is in a planetary orbit.

Because of this orbital configuration, HD 191612 9 is not included in the standard exploration data set that every member of the Pilot's Federation receives from Universal Cartographics, despite the fact that the star is not only three times the radius of its parent star, but it's more luminous as well.
