First Trip to Colonia

After three weeks of grinding money and materials I had finally purchased my first Anaconda with a fully upgraded FSD. I have completed two prior exploration trips before in my trusty ASP Explorer, but this time I had my eyes set on a much further destination, Colonia. I had heard many stories in the bar from weathered old pilots of the sights and sounds of the inner systems, I knew I must go.

I purchased a handful of maps of the infamous Colonia highway for a bottle of whiskey and a few credits, slapped a new neon purple paint job on my shiny new ship, and headed out for what I knew would be a long journey.

I began outpost jumping along the Colonia highway, taking it slow, scanning that precious data as I went. It was quiet, peaceful, but did not seem unlike my previous exploration trips, what was all this talk of Colonia about?

I made it to the Rohini system where my map had pointed me to a station called Eudaemon Anchorage, a good place to stop and perhaps a beer? Apparently this station was not so friendly as several pirates began to give chase as soon as I neared the dock. Knowing that I had cut some costs by buying lower end weapons, since after all I was only exploring? I was in panic trying to flee these pirates instead of having to face a ton of lost exploration data and a hefty rebuy cost. Thankfully, my empty cargo hold was not much of interest and thus I made it in one piece to the dock. Safe enough to say that I did not linger long enough for that drink. I raced across the next stretch of the highway to my next destination, Sacaqawea Space Port. Thankfully I was left alone and this journey, though long, was relatively peaceful. When I finally arrived I was able to indulge on that much needed beer, or several beers. While I was sitting in that rusty old bar I met a young treasure hunting pilot, who was already several beers into the night himself, who had told me of a mysterious guardian ruin site nearby that he had been checking out. I had heard of the guardians before but never in much detail, why not check it out myself?

Having no idea what I would come across in these ruins I sold off my current exploration data to a rather happy employee of the spaceport and spent the next day searching for these ruins. The planet itself was easy enough to find and glided into a landing spot easy enough. I prepped my untouched SRV and set upon the planet surface. The ruins were easy enough to spot and as I raced towards them I was amazed at the mystery surrounding them. There were tall pillars that rose from the ground as I neared them, strange glowing runes, and old abandoned building that served some purpose that I could only imagine. I collected some data in my ship’s computer system and filled my cargo hold with these weird glowing crystal shards but the memory of the Rohini system was still fresh in my mind. I did not want to linger too long nor travel far with a cargo hold that would seem appealing to pirates. So after a day, I set off again heading down the Colonia Highway.

The next few days I watched the beauty of the universe unfold before my eyes. The amount of stars was mind boggling. So many lights, so many distant worlds, I was in awe. This was what those old weathered pilots spoke of. Though this was the longest part of the trip, there was so much to see that the days past quickly. Before I knew it I was suddenly staring at Jaques Station, my destination. I had finally made it!

As for now I am spending a few days to relax, perhaps some courier missions for beer money. But on my mind I am always planning for my next destination. Perhaps it is time to visit the center of the galaxy?

First Exploration Journey

After weeks of prepping an ASP Explorer with upgraded Jump Drive, stripping down unneeded parts, and equipping necessary scanners I left the bubble for the first time to test out my exploration skills.

My first destination was the space station located in Thor's helmet. The journey was a bit rough as I manually maneuvered through what seemed like a vast belt of restricted systems that needed some permit I still have yet to discover. I breathed a sigh of relief as I heard the familiar sounds of the docking pad clamps when I finally docked at the station. But I knew that I could not turn back now, I had gone too far already, I must keep going!

The next destination was the Statue of Liberty Nebula, this journey was much easier. I was getting use to the controls of the explorer and silence of deep space. This nebula was quite small but still a sight to see, yet I needed more!

I headed all the way to the Nebula NGC 3199. I felt so alone out here in the dark with only the hum of my ships engines as company, but as I passed from one undiscovered system to the next, the loneliness was only a minor inconvenience compared to the deep connection I felt for such a vast universe. And, upon my arrival, as I sat looking into the depths of a black hole I knew my mission was worth every lonely second of this long journey.

I now make my way back home, the first exploration trip coming to an end. But now I know it will not be my last. I will upgrade my ship to do more, I will point myself in a new direction, and I shall journey once more. 315 systems discovered and 28,481 total hyperspace distance traveled, I will always reach for more.
