NGC 2440 is a planetary nebula in the Puppis constellation. It was discovered by William Herschel on March 4, 1790. He described it as 'a beautiful planetary nebula of a considerable degree of brightness, not very well defined.' The nebula is red and green, and lit by a lone Wolf-Rayet star with no planetary bodies.

The host star was originally believed to be one of the hottest stars, but recent observations show it significantly cooled.
