ELWs

So I've been looking into my "missing" ELWs that EDSM says I have, but that my personal records don't show. I finally found out how to filter EDSM's advanced search to return all bodies you are trying to filter by, not just what is within 5000lys. You have to just tell it to sort by something that isnt a distance, like alphabetical for instance. So I've been going through and comparing and I've learned some interesting things.

1: My first trip to Colonia in 2018 was an absolute mess. There were ELWs I scanned but didnt map. There were also some that EDSM thought I was first on, but when comparing in game, I wasn't.

2: I HAD AN ELW MOON ALREADY! I thought I had finally found one the about 10 days ago, but going back into my EDSM records, the 5th one I ever had found was a moon. Yeesh.

But that's where most of my discrepancy was. I had a couple others that I had been first to map but not discover, so that was throwing things off too. I'm not sure what I want to do. There are 5 of my 2018 ELWs that still arent mapped to this day. A separate one was mapped by someone else afterwards. So do I go retrace my steps? I could always neutron it over to each. We'll see. I need to make sure I add that filter step to my Word doc for future use.

Jaques

I made it to Jaques early this afternoon. Having left on the morning of the 15th, the trip took 13.5 days. After selling data and running some numbers I found that I made 2.846b credits. Just shy of the 3 I was blindly shooting for, but dang close enough to be plenty happy. I found a total of 19 ELWs. I will say that I'm pretty disappointed in that number. The gap in finding ELWs from just prior to Sag A to just nearly Beagle Point was insane. I was only able to cross 1 item off of my bucket list; an ELW moon. I'm going to dig through the codex, maybe tonight, and see if maybe there was a GGG or a terraformable metal-rich or something in there that I didnt see while scanning, but I'm somehow doubting it. I'm feeling really good about being back. Now its a matter of do I take a break, or keep the train moving. I could suicide sidewinder back, get a fleet carrier, load up my fleet, and carry them out to Colonia and beyond. I'm closing in on my 500K ly badge. So far I have 69 confirmed ELWs discovered, despite the fact that EDSM says I have first discovered 75. I'm not sure there's a way I can filter just by ELWs I've discovered galaxy wide so I can check them against both the in-game galaxy map, and my ELW spreadsheet.

One Final Night

It looks as though this should be my last night in the black before reaching port tomorrow. My remaining jumps is now well in double digits. Usually the last 7 or so jumps into Colonia are previously explored too making the last bit a sprint to the finish. I'm feeling good again. I want to be there and done with the trip so badly, but not in a bad way. It's like coming up on the tape after running a marathon. I don't regret the trip, but I dont know if I'll undertake anything like that again. Although... I do kind of want to circumnavigate the galaxy... But maybe after a break again. A few of my squad are back from vacation now. We are only missing 1 at this point, but how much/if they all choose to play from here out is yet to be seen. I'm torn between buying a fleet carrier right away and continuing to go ham, or on the other hand, foregoing the purchase and taking a bit of a break. KSP2 has been moderately fun but immensely frustrating so it's not pulling super hard at me yet. I don't really have anything coming until Tear of the Kingdom drops in a couple months. Regardless, tomorrow afternoon I should be celebrating.

A Couple More Days

I'm now closer to Colonia than it is from Sol. I'm around 20k LY and it feels like its coming into reach. My luck has improved a bit lately. One of the last systems I stopped in tonight had 8 planets worth mapping and netted me almost 26m on it's own. I should be back in a couple of days now. I think I can really push over the next day or two and finish this trip off with a massive payout. My morale is up again after taking a day off from flying, and now feeling like I'm so close has me finding my second wind. I just know in the back of my mind if I just neutron hop I could be back in just a couple hours, but I want to finish this trip out scanning all the way in.

Space Madness

The grind is really setting in now. I'm still several days out of Colonia, but already I'm wishing I was there. I think today is day 10 of my trip. I can't believe how few ELWs I've found. It seems so improbable with my filters set up exclusively for A, F, B, and non-seq. The B's could be turned off, but they are so few and far between that I rarely hit one, and some of these stretches are so sparse that I need additional jump options. Tomorrow I'll be passing between arms again and I think I'll need to turn on G and K so I can head in a halfway straight line and not be doing a bunch of 30LY jumps because of star spacing. Yesterday I felt like I wasnt making any progress, but today felt a little better when looking at the map.

Beagle Point

It took about 8 days to go from Sol to Beagle Point in an extremely non-linear manner. Before leaving Sag A I looked on google to see if I was going to have any issue finding my way there. The consensus was not at all, which was the case. I did see one person saying not to make the trip at all because he went all the way out and it wasnt different in any way like he'd imagined. Everyone plays for their own reasons, but I feel like he missed the point on this one. It's similar to driving out to Hutton and being like, its the same as any other outpost. Well yes, but no. No other outpost is that far from its primary star, and no other system (at least for a while) is/was farther away from Sol and reachable. I'm not sure what someone would expect to be out there. I'd argue there's more out there than I'd seen in days of flying. There were tourist beacons, npc cruise liners, and fleet carriers. The point is the journey. Its the right of passage. Its the EDSM badge. Its the flight map that shows I was there. I'd like to make it back to Colonia before KSP 2 comes out on Friday, but thats just not going to happen. My plan is to sweep out to the west and come down to Colonia. I remember telling co-workers back in 2018 that I was going to fly out to Beagle Point and that it would probably take months. On that trip, I flew out to Colonia and quit playing for 2 years. When I picked it back up I flew to Sag A and back to Colonia before suicide Sidewindering back to the bubble and spending the rest of that play session grinding engineering and rep. After quitting for another 2 years and picking it back up, I immediately drove back to Colonia via the core, eventually suicide sidewindering back again, finishing all of my engineering and rep grind, running the neutron highway from Sol to Colonia, to Sag A, to Sol in a day, exploring south of the bubble, and then driving back out to Sag A before finally reaching BP. In some ways it took me a lot longer than a "couple months". But once I decided that I was gone to finally knock it out, it only took just over a week. Of course this time I'm using a 77ly Anaconda and the occasional neutron, but the trip was seamless. I arrived, visited the beacon, snapped some screenshots, visited a fleet carrier, ate dinner, wrote this, and now its time to hit the road...

Nearing Beagle Point

After a couple days of driving I'm within striking distance of Beagle Point. Its been a bit of a stinker of a trip in regards to ELWs, however. I like to track my ELW discoveries with bookmarks on the in game galaxy map as a rough idea of where Ive gone, but I've made hundreds of jumps since leaving the core and had nearly given up before hitting 2 in quick succession. I was honestly a little disappointed when I found one. It was getting to the point of being arguably more impressive that I hadnt found one yet after filtering to just F, A, B, and non-sequence and scanning every system. I'm also going quite a ways out of my way to drive through as many sectors and by extension accumulate as many codex as possible. I MAY be able to reach BP tomorrow, but we will see. I feel like its been a quick trip for scanning every system and not using a neutron highway.

Explorer's Anchorage

Made it out to Sag A today. It was a relatively quick trip, only taking a couple of days. I found 8 ELWs on the way, including the last one which checked one of my bucket list items. I finally found an ELW that was a moon. I still have several other bucket list items I'm hunting for, but it always feels pretty good to check a box. I pulled into port this evening, sold off all my data and took right back off again. After selling I'm a hair shy of 5b. I imagine when I get back to Colonia that I should have at least 6.5, or maybe 7. I stopped flying into suns, so thats good. At some point I turned neutron routing on which really helped speed the trip up a bit. I enjoyed the mix of a couple of neutrons occasionally, rather than the tempo of just endless neutrons on the highway.

Back in the Black

I set out today for Beagle Point. I'm going to head east and come up second arm in this time. I think when I get out near the core I'll head over to Explorers Anchorage and sell my data before setting off again. I'm making good progress with my 77LY Anaconda. I made somewhere around 150 jumps today but made it a good long way. I dont know that I found any more than 1 unclaimed ELW which feels low. Maybe tomorrow I'll really ratchet down the star filter. Regardless, it's good to be out in the galaxy again. I need to get back in a routine though. I had videos up on my windshield as normal, but I kept laser focusing on it and flying into suns. I think I did it 4 times today and I cant remember the last time I had done it prior.

Refueling Before the Big Trip

I was frustratingly difficult to get back to Sol from where I was. So many systems were locked and I couldnt find a way back through. Eventually, through going waaay around, I made it back. I also downloaded VoiceAttack and bought Celeste. It's been fun to play with so far. Once I got back I sat in the hanger for a bit and decided that I would head towards Beagle in the morning. I logged off for the night but it was early so I created a Word document that became 6 pages. I play the game off and on and take a couple years off at a time at times. Its really hard to sit back down and pick it back up when you know you have to learn it all again. The document is full of all the tricks and tips I dont want to forget. It also has instructions for all the programs and websites I use, as well as my key binds just in case I somehow lose them.
