Back to the mines

Well, the gas giant rings anyway.

Been spending much of the last few days in the rings chisel, scrapping, drilling and exploding various rocks for their contents. This has been somewhat relaxing, apart from the odd pirate attack, and fiarly profitable, though nothing to write home about. Market fluctations have taken the shine off rather, or perhaps I need a better apprieciation of where and what.

Still unsure abut a return to the bubble, it is a bit of a trek but it has been a couple of years and it might be nice to be back in the thick of things. Or maybe bounce off and head out toe the Coal Sack nebula and see what is brewing there.

Decisions decisions.

Meanwhile probably time for a few more rocks and maybe the odd delivery.

Evelyn's Light

So, after hearing the story of Everlyn's Light and realising it was only a few hundred LYs from Colonia I set out to visit the system. With neutron boosts it was only a 5 jumps which is impressive really. I took a tour of the system and entirely missed a fellow commander who had been talking to me about it over comms and was reportedly in system but managed to missed. Well, space is big.

There were a few carriers in system and I made a point to get the ship tuned up before heading back. The return journey was even quicker, crikey.

Since then I've mostly been doing a spot of mining. The market condition have changed things up quite a bit but in many respects this hasn't adjusted my own strategy too much which was never so much about the optimal thing to mine as it was enjoying the calm of space and the asteroid fields while I did. Still, does mean I'm perhaps a little less focussed on icy rings than before. Turned a reasonable profit, though nothing ground breaking, and was happy to find the Pulse Wave Analyser fixes seemed to mostly do the tricky. Swear it still glitching here and there but still better than before.

What I'll do next is still up for debate, perhaps return to the bubble. Maybe a bit more work with the research limpets before that.

One thing I have done is put the festive lights up. Something of an ancient and archic tradition at this point but can't say it doesn't brighten up the ship.

Exploding rocks and poking Molluscs

So, been back at Colonia for a few days now.

One of the first things I did was to request transfer of the Krait back to Jaques station. The Destiny's Edge 2 is a great ship but it lacks speed and maneouverability and I felt a bit of that after the trip would be weclome.

Once it arrived I took it out on a bit of a mining touring, blowing up the odd rock, and the odd pirate and generally seeing how all these new market fluctations that are in the news have changed things since I left. Made a bit of money but not exactly a lot but this does have more more seriously eyeing up deposits I wouldn't have been so fussed with before. Not that I was ever hugely focussed to begin with, but I should get a tidier sum for some of the stuff I should probabaly left behind before. So that was interesting and a nice change zipping through the rocks. On a related aside I note that word on the grapevine is that the Pilots Federation are pushing interface updates to fix the Pulse Wave Analyser glitch that has been around for months. That'll certainly help plenty of miners, myself included.

After mining I jumped back in the Destiny's Edge 2 and set about tracking a Research Limpet controller. I hadn't managed to pick one of these up before I set out with Cmdr Smiler so I was keen to get that omission rectified. Dropped the backup AFMU to make room, possibly the best option really. Anyway, tracked one down at a local Fleet Carrier, which was very handy all things considered. I then set about experimenting. Did you know you can collect various samples from space Molluscs? I didn't, but I'm glad to have a new tool with which to do this kind of thing. Found I could get Spore, Membrance and Mycelium samples. Haven't really found anyone interested in these and they are only worth a little on the open market but perhaps somewhere out there is either a use or someone interested in them. Well, we'll see. Haven't managed to do much else with the limpets yet and they only seem to be useful in cases an item is targettable so my intial excitment at finally getting some Bark Mound samples has been rather dashed. Still, nice to have options and to be expanding the Destiny's Edge 2's capability as an exploration and research platform.

Not quite clear what my next steps are. I'm still tempted by a return to the bubble, though perhaps more mining and more local exploration and research would be good first.

The journey continues, back at Colonia

Well, I made it.

After several thousand light years of travel, a handful of neutron jumps and lots of scans and mapping done I am back at Colonia.

No further trouble with pirates on the way in which rather surprised me but was welcome. The Destiny's Edge 2 did take some damage from an unforced erro on my part though, accidentally did a forced FSD drop and managed to crunch pretty much every system and the hull. Was glad for the dual AFMUs and the repair limpets. Not that I was far away from Colonia and repair services by that stage but still.. I think the long journey must have taken its toll on me as well given that mistake. At least I didn't crash in to a planet this time.. Made that mistake on the return journey from the Distant Worlds 2 expedition and I was further away from help then That was a bit close all in all. So, this time, not so bad really. Still, mistakes.

Once back settled down, got some further tweaks made to the ship and brushed up the paint work, Destiny's Edge 2 certainly deserves it.

A short rest now I think, possibly a bit of mining and then, I suspect, a trip back to the Bubble. I've been away for what, two years? I'd like to see the stars of home for a bit. Though in all fairness I'm rather liking Colonia so I'm not sure how long I'd be back for. We'll see.

The journey continues, maybe tomorrow

Very close to Colonia now. Effectively within that region of space, the route planner reckons another 7 hops.

Made some reasonable progess today dwon from the 20 hops or so left from yesterday. One neutron jump and a few planets to map, most gas giants with life.

Also encoutered my first, rather far flung, pirate. Obviously thirsty for the brandy in the hold Cmdr Smiler gave me.. Managed to shake them off but not the feeling of concern I have with re-entering inhabited space.

Anyway, should be back soon, we'll see how it goes.

The journey continues, almost there

So, about 20 jumps left now until Colonia.

I've spent the last few days hoping from system to system, scanning and mapping as I go.

Been a few interesting finds, or at least, more extensive finds. Some systems with plenty of terraformables of one type or another or multiple life bearing gas giants. Still, beem focusing on getting all this done than on writing about it. Today's interesting one a close triple set of stars which was a bit alarming flying in and rather picturesque after that.

All being well should make it to Colonia in the next few days. After that we#ll have to see. Perhaps finally back to the bubble, certainly a lot going on back there.

The journey continues, the route planner taketh, the route planner giveth

So an unsual state of affairs today.

Typically I find myself complaining that the route plotter has added a lot of jumps and set me back.

Today it suddenly found a much shorter route and was suggesting Only 65 jumps down from just under 80. This was a bit odd all in all.

Anyway, take what I can get and I set off. Didn't get that far as my general remite of scanning life bearing, or potentially life bearing, planets led me on some pretty long in-system flights.

I wrapped up for the day with another journey of over 300Kls on the table. I wonder if the route plotter will be kind again to make up for it.

The journey continues, a few more hops

Just a few more jumps today. Route planner was having its little fun again and set me back a bit but not too much and by then end of the days travels it was reckoning 86 jumps remaining. Few more terraformables and less gas giants of note today. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

The journey continues, oh come on..

Made decent progress today until the route plotter decided it had found another 15 systems for me to visit on my way to Colonia. Not sure that is about but I wasn't best pleased given it wiped out all my travel progress for the day. A bit of fiddling around recovered some of the losses but it still set me back a whack. Perhaps I'll lose a few systems next time. Anyway, notionally down to about 89 jumps remaining now, been closer to 80 on the original route! Not much to report on thw way, some life filled gas giant systems and occasioanl terraformable. I've holed up in one system and made repairs to the FSD after some neutron jumps. Will have to see what tomorrow brings!

The journey continues, to Colonia!

Yesterday was spent messing around with ships systems in preparation for continuing the journey onwards to Colonia.

I'd decided to move on quickly, not only because I'm anxious to be back in civilisation with all that is going on in the galaxy but also as the DSSA Enigma while situated very prettily is not a particularly convienient base of operations being over 6Kls out from the primary star and embedded deeply within a gas giant gravity well.

So onwards.

Route finding suggests 111 jumps to Colonia and todays travels has brought that down to a theoretical 99 remaining. We'll see how it goes. After today's travel and several neutron boosted jumps I have breifly stopped for AFMU lead repairs. I'll resume my travels tomorrow.
